Léa Mysius is known for co-writing films by Arnaud Desplechin (“Ismail’s Ghosts”), Jacques Audiard (“Paris, District 13”), and Claire Denis (“Stars At Noon”). She’s also an acclaimed director (“The Five Devils,” “Ava”).
Her next directorial effort was announced this morning — a thriller adapted from Laurent Mauvignier's novel, “Histoires de la nuit.” The story has a peaceful little village turning into distress. Here’s the synopsis:
Set in a hamlet in rural France, the story follows a man and his wife, their daughter and an artist neighbour. As the man plans a surprise for his wife’s birthday, inexplicable happenings begin to disrupt the hamlet’s quiet existence before turning into a nightmarish chain of events when night falls.
Marie-Ange Luciani, producer of the film, told Screen Daily that the project is a female version of Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence.” The film is set to start production in May 2024.
