Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie’s HBO series “The Curse” starring Emma Stone has a trailer.
This looks good. A mix of domestic drama, horror, satire and docu-fiction. Is this fully scripted? The trailer plays like there might be a lot of improv in the show. We already know about Safdie’s work with brother Josh, but Fielder is a genuine TV genius. I can’t wait for this.
“The Curse” is set to premiere its first three episodes, totalling 159 minutes, at the New York Film Festival. The Film Stage’s Jordan Raup says he’s heard it's “better than any film released so far this year”.
Safdie co-stars as a reality TV producer who follows a married couple (Stone and Fielder) as they gentrify a New Mexico neighborhood that just may or may not be haunted. The series will no doubt be tackling racial and class issues.
The series will explore "how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show, Flipanthropy."
The 10-episode series is co-produced by Showtime and A24, with Fielder and Safdie, along with brother Josh Safdie. It’s set to be released on Paramount+ November 10th before making its on-air debut on Showtime November 12th.
