The Golden Globes had a disastrous ratings night. As it stands, based on overnight numbers, only 5.36 million people tuned in. That’s down 23% from the pandemic-damaged 2021 numbers, which is the last time the Globes aired.
The collapse follows a downward spiral trajectory. The Globes had 18 million in 2020, 6.9 million in 2021 and 5.36 million last night. NBC clearly wanted to bury the show by airing it on a Tuesday instead of the usual comfy Sunday evening spot.
I don’t think I’ve spoken to a single person who actually liked last night’s ceremony — it was boringly produced, host Jerrod Carmichael’s jokes fell flat, many winners were no-shows and the speeches kept being interrupted by the orchestra.
NBC renegotiated its 8-year deal down to one, they will probably not be renewing their contract with the HFPA. The Globes will be orphaned, but who will take them?
