How weird that Ben Affleck’s “Air” is going to be released theatrically in April. I fully expected a fall festival route for this one, but I guess not.
According to Amazon Studios, Affleck’s upcoming directorial effort will be getting a full, worldwide theatrical release in April. A vote of confidence for its potential box-office prospects, but quality-wise? Who knows.
“Air” tells the story of the rise of Nike thanks to its partnership with rookie Michael Jordan. The film stars Affleck, as well as Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, and Chris Messina. The film is written by Alex Convery.
Affleck, the filmmaker, hasn’t directed a film since 2016’s “Live by Night,” which was one hot mess of a gangster movie. Before that misfire, Affleck had directed a handful of critically-acclaimed films such as “Argo,” “The Town,” and “Gone Baby Gone.”
This is Damon and Affleck’s third writing collaboration together after their Oscar-winning work in “Good Will Hunting,” and 2021’s “The Last Duel.” It’s unclear when exactly “Air” will arrive on Prime Video, but what we do know is that “Air” will debut in theaters on April 5.
