UPDATED: A few impatient readers are wondering what’s going on with this poll. I definitely haven’t forgotten about it. It’s only half completed, but coming along well. Results should be posted during the latter half of March.
EARLIER: I’ve been working on a new critics poll. This time I’m asking for critics and industry people to submit their ten picks for the best films of the 1960s. The aim is to gather up around 300 ballots.
The results will be very interesting to analyze as, when all is said and done, I expect Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” to figure very much at the top of the heap. But what comes before it? Because this was such a rich period in movie history, especially with the total boom of foreign directors entering the fray, I expect a rich variety of titles to make it.
Results are set to be published at the end of the month.
Film schools, mainstream media outlets and, even, Wikipedia have cited our past “decade in film” polls. They are an integral part of this site and I will continue to conduct them as long as there is high interest from readers — the goal is to go all the way back to the silent era. We’ve already covered the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.
