If you wanted James Cameron to focus on anything else but ‘Avatar’ then you’re out of luck. He’s basically confirmed that the 3rd, 4th and 5th movies are happening. His reason? They’ve made too much damn money for him not to continue the story.
The director was on this week’s episode of HBO Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? —
“It looks like just with the momentum that the film has now that will easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this, I’m gonna have to do these other sequels”. “I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years. The point is we’re going to be okay. I’m sure that we’ll have a discussion soon with with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for Avatar 3, which is already in the can – we’ve already captured and photographed the whole film so we’re in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can. We’ve begun a franchise at this point. We’ve begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films.”
‘The Way of Water’ has made $1.5 million at the worldwide box-office in only 23 days of release and it’s not foolish to think it’ll end up at well over the projected $2.2 billion mark when all is said done, some projections are saying it could be as high as $2.5 million.
Reviews for ‘The Way of Water’ have been mostly positive, maybe not as good as the first one, but still a film that is currently the 16th most listed on critics’ year-end top ten lists. It also has a 77% on RT and 67 on MC.
