The much-anticipated trailer for Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” has been released. As expect, it’s about the non-stop partying that occurred in the 1920s as Hollywood was being built from the ground up into an empire.
The movie is going for pure bonkers entertainment, but is it just me or it doesn’t seem like it’s set in the ‘20s at all? The photography is bothering me though, there’s nothing original about the lenses being used here, but it all feels rather very slick. Regardless, I’m sold on its ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ type vibe.
The fact that this is 3-hours gives me confidence in the ambition and scope that will be presented here by Chazelle. This will be his go-for-broke moment, and a test-screening from earlier this year hints at the filmmaker succeeding with this one.
There have been some disappointed reactions to the trailer today, but I believe it’s just a case of “Babylon” having been hyped up for close to a year now, and people having a clear image in their heads of how it’s supposed to look like.
