Last week I warned that Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” could be the sleeper hit at Venice. I had heard many good things coming out of its NYC press screening.
The embargo has now lifted and there isn’t a single negative review for “The Banshees of Inisherin.” That’s quite impressive. Most of the reviews signify that it’s a small-scaled achievement.
THR, Deadline, Variety, Screen International, IndieWire, The Guardian, Total Film, Uproxx, The Telegraph, Collider and Vanity Fair are all positive. The result is an 89 on Metacritic (based on 12 reviews).
‘Banshees’ reunites McDonagh with his ‘Bruges’ stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The duo play friends who live on a remote Irish isle and whose relationship is turned upside down after one of them abruptly ends the friendship, which results in “alarming circumstances for both.”
