I am not really disappointed that Pedro Almodovar is no longer attached to direct “Manual For Cleaning Women.” If he doesn’t feel comfortable directing a movie in English then why bother?
Almodovar tells Deadline that he “came to the decision that he’s not ready to tackle such a monumental project in English.”
I always wondered if Almodovar’s very Spanish-centric melodramas could translate well into the English language, alas, unfortunately we mightnever know as I’m of the frame of mind that he will probably never attempt that again.
Not many renowned world filmmakers have managed to make the successful leap to American cinema. Wong Kar-Wai, Win Wenders, Hirokazu Kore-eda and plenty more all had semi-decent forays, but their English films came nowhere close to the ones they helmed in their home countries.
