The Best R-Rated Movies You Can Watch On Netflix

Want to get your heart racing with some R-Rated movies? We have created this list containing our top 10. This collection is in no particular order but contains some of the best pictures you can watch on Netflix. Of course, if you do opt to watch any of the movies mentioned, it might be best to do so alone!

1. Whiplash (2014)

Starring the likes of Miles Teller, Whiplash is based on the relationship shared between a music student and their teacher. While this might sound like a dull subject, the director Damien Chazelle has done an incredible job here.

It all begins with the main character Andrew Neyman practicing his drumming skills after school one night. His teacher, Mr. Fletcher, listens to his solo performance, scowling and demanding more. Over the course of the next few months, Fletcher abuses Andrew until the student is pushed to his limits. This is when something in Neyman shifts, sparking him into the pursuit of his musical dreams.

2. Mississippi Grind (2015)

Sitting atop the pyramid of gambling movies is Mississippi Grind. This movie follows two high-stakes players, Curtis and Jerry, who end up becoming best friends. Although they are polar opposites in many senses, their relationship is captivating and entertaining, to say the least.

The pair head on a road trip to Mississippi, stopping off at different casinos and race tracks along the way. Unfortunately, Gerry is gambling with money he cannot afford to lose. This is why setting limits when playing at a real money casino Canada is important. After a downward spiral, the pair try to turn things around.

3. The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)

As the name suggests, this movie follows the trial of a group of defendants, charged with inciting anti-Vietnam protests. The Trial of the Chicago 7 is set in 1969, which is when the trial begins. While Judge Julius Hoffman is not impartial, it becomes almost impossible to ignore the revolution starting on the outside.

Seemingly the entirety of Illinois is behind the 7, gathering outside the U.S. District Court and making themselves heard. For some, this movie may hit close to home, as it touches on issues still prevalent in America today. With plenty of twists and turns, this movie will keep anyone on their toes!

4. Uncut Gems (2019)

This dramatic thriller focuses on one luxury jeweler, who is also a compulsive gambling addict. While making these bets, Howard Ratner, played by Adam Sandler, lives a fast life in New York City. Not content with his losses, Ratner offers a new service alongside his business, claiming he will repair expensive jewelry. However, this is not what it seems.

Really, these items are being used as collateral for huge loans, provided by the mob. Howard then uses this money to bet on professional basketball. Without a series of back-to-back wins, his everyday life is in great danger. Uncut Gems is perfect for anyone that is looking for a casino movie on Netflix!

 5. The Lighthouse (2019)

Set in the 1890s, The Lighthouse is a horror and thriller that is loaded with gore. Two lighthouse keepers try to avoid going insane as they work on a New England Island. With nobody else for company, the pair slowly start to lose their minds and subsequently, their calm. Some humorous monologues are exchanged as their relationship is tested.

Of course, there are other things to worry about when isolated on a remote island. Hunger and physical exhaustion play a huge part in decreasing the morale of the duo. With insanity closing in, what will become of these lighthouse keepers?

6. Wind River (2017)

This movie focuses on a native game hunter, Cory Lambert who is played by Jeremy Renner. While out doing his job, Cory uncovers a dead body that is strangely far away from any civilization. Perhaps because of the unusual location, FBI agent Jane Banner is put on the case. Lambert also assists, using his skills as a game hunter to help in any way he can.

This isn’t just your typical murder mystery, however, as Cory deals with his troublesome past. Racial issues are also covered, particularly the unfair treatment of Native Americans by the US government.

7. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

When watching Eyes Wide Shut, it’s tough to tell whether you’re experiencing a daydream or a nightmare. This movie centers on Dr. Bill Harford and his wife Alice. These two main characters are played by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. While the couple has been loyal throughout their marriage, one night Alice reveals that she considered having an affair.

This confession sends Bill into despair. As a result, he spends the night in the same way a single man would. Exploring possibilities with other women while also attending a masked orgy. In this 1999 erotic thriller, temptation is everywhere.

8. Basic Instinct (1992)

If Eyes Wide Shut wasn’t R-Rated enough for you, we introduce Basic Instinct. A classic whodunit at heart, but with gory and erotic twists at almost every turn. Catherine Tramell is the main antagonist, played by Sharon Stone.

She is a novelist connected to the murder of Johnny Boz, who was killed during intercourse. The rock star was found dead in a manner that resembled Tramell’s latest novel. While she pleads innocence, other murders unfold, all of which are carried out with the same weapon, an ice pick.

9. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas certainly isn’t suited to everyone. It takes a specific mindset in order to really understand the storyline. In this movie, a journalist and lawyer head to Vegas to cover a huge motorbike race. However, things don’t necessarily go to plan.

The lead characters are Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo. These characters are played by Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro. Opting to travel in a convertible car, they travel to Vegas with suitcases full of cocaine. Things start to get intense and chaotic, as the two consume more drugs.

 10. Wolf Of Wall Street (2013)

Finally, we have Wolf Of Wall Street, which is the longest movie on this list. We follow the rise and eventual downfall of Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. After landing a new job at a popular stock broker, he learns the ins and outs of the market.

Unfortunately, Belfort uses unethical (and illegal) tactics in order to profit from his clients. However, after straying from his job and starting his own company, he’s making too much money to care. With copious amounts of drugs and sexual scenes scattered throughout, this is an R-Rated movie for the ages. What makes this film even more interesting, is the fact that it’s based on a true story.
