A24 have set a limited theatrical release for Owen Kline’s “Funny Pages”, and are also opting to screen it on August 25th for $15.
I wrote on 08.06.22:
“Kline’s satirical jabs hit where they hurt. His film plays like a millennial “American Splendor,” only better. Shot in 2019, “Funny Pages” was sitting in post-production hell for the better part of three years until none other than the Safdies saved it and then A24 jumped onboard.”
The film is opening in over 30 theaters Friday. In NY, it’s not only at Lincoln Center, but also the Angelika. There are two full repertory programs going on in NY supporting the film right now - a program at Lincoln Center and a program at the Roxy.
This is Kline’s directorial debut — a film I wrote was one of the very best of 2022. It had a very successful screening at Cannes in the Director’s Fortnight sidebar. The film currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 12 reviews.
Kline’s “Funny Pages” is bound to become an instant cult classic. Don’t miss it.
