A total of eight titles have been sent over to Academy voters for Oscar consideration.
Netflix’s “Hustle” with Adam Sandler and Amazon movies including “All the Old Knives” and “Master”. Sundance prize winner “Emergency”, Universal’s animated feature “The Bad Guys”. Also, Documentaries “Navalny” and “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song”.
Most intriguing of all, “Good Luck to you, Leo Grande” for which HULU somehow convinced the Academy to wave its non-streaming rules and make eligible for Oscars consideration.
Again, the film did NOT open in US theaters. What was the point of the Oscars changing the rules if they can just let this one slide?
Regardless, the Academy took the bait. Searchlight actually found a way to get Emma Thompson back in contention. You can now re-add her lukewarm performance to your Best Actress predictions.
