Some more sleuthing occured this weekend. This time it was emailing festival contacts to figure out what was submitted to and rejected by Venice.
At the moment, I have Hong’s “Walk Up”, Christophe Honore’s “Le Lyceen”, Sebastien Lelio’s “The Wonder”, Maria Schrader’s “She Said”, Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light”, Tobias Lindholm’s “The Good Nurse,” Ulrich Seidl’s “Sparta,” and Abel Ferrera “Padre Pio”, although the latter appeared in a side section of the fest.
I’m not entirely sure what happened with Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking.” Odds are that Amazon decided to skip Venice in favour of a Telluride/Toronto combo. No word yet on whether this one also goes to New York.
Meanwhile, Netflix didn’t event bother to submit the “Knives Out” sequel to Venice. Ditto, Universal with Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans.”
I’m sure I’ll get more info on other titles when the time comes.
