There had been these persistent rumours that Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” would go to the New York Film Festival for around a month now. I brushed them off, waiting for more credible sources to chime in.
A few weeks ago, a prominent Oscar pundit for a trade hinted that a rival studio started a rumour Spielberg’s film would be having its world premiere in Toronto. I brushed that off as well. A rival studio? Pfff ..
“The Fabelmans” has just officially been announced as a World Premiere for the Toronto International Film Festival.
The full TIFF lineup won’t be coming to us until the first week of August. That’s a bit more than three weeks before the fest begins. Unheard of! Ballsy move from fest boss Cameron Bailey.
“The Fabelmans” will have Spielberg recounting his childhood in Arizona, including his sneaking into studio lots to meet his idols (the rumor is that David Lynch will be playing an eye-patched John Ford). Michelle Williams and Paul Dano will be playing Spielberg’s parents. Seth Rogan will play the Uncle.
