Tom Cruise celebrated his 60th birthday yesterday.
People tend to forget what a great actor Cruise actually is. You can’t watch a film like “Born on the Fourth of July” without noticing that talent.
Yes, there’s his affinity for starring in all of those “Mission: Impossible” movies, but Cruise built his career as a dramatic actor first and as an action star second. I do hope he starts concentrating his energy on more dramatic roles during, what will probably be, these last 10-20 years of his acting career.
Cruise should’ve gotten nominated for “Collateral” and (don’t shoot the messenger) “Tropic Thunder.” He also should have WON for the best performance of his career in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia.”
Other top-notch Cruise performances: “Risky Business,” “The Color of Money,” “A Few Good Men,” “Minority Report,” “War of the Worlds,” “Rain Man,” “Eyes Wide Shut” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “The Firm” and “Jerry Maguire.”
