Taika Waititi has confirmed that “Next Goal Wins,” starring Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, will be released later this year.
“There was a year where I didn’t even watch that film and it just sat on ice. It shot just before the pandemic.”
If you remember, after numerous sexually assault allegations surfaced against him, troubled actor Armie Hammer got “Plummer-ed” and had his already-shot scenes replaced by Will Arnett. Waititi held the reshoots late last year.
The situation is very similar to what was done to Kevin Spacey on “All the Money in the Worlds,” the former had his scenes completely reshot with the late great Christopher Plummer as his replacement.
Principal photography on “Next Goal Wins” began in November of 2019 and wrapped in January 2020, it has been in a state of limbo ever since. A TIFF premiere now seems likely.
