Chloe Okuno‘s “Watcher,” which I raved about a few months ago when it premiered at Sundance, is getting released tomorrow. This was a film filled with Polanski-esque dread, as a young American woman (Maika Monroe) wanders around Romania with the feeling that she’s being stalked. Okuno keeps the screws of tension turning throughout her tightly knit narrative, one in which you’re never really sure whether you should trust the main protagonist or not. I have a feeling this one will be overlooked by a majority of critics — an 83% on RT and 67 on MC is far too low for such a quality work. A real shame, it’s one of the best horror movies of recent years. [B+]
