On 04.20.22 I was the first to break the news that Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard were shooting a new Michel Franco movie. Now Deadline is reporting that the film is called “Memory” and production has wrapped in New York. The plot is being kept under wraps, but it is said to revolve around a “New York City staycation.”
If you haven’t seen “Sundown” then please do. It’s one of the very best films to have been released this year, maybe even Franco’s best as well. It features not just excellent, Haneke-esque direction from Franco, but a career-peak performance from Tim Roth as well.
I wrote:
“The one-two punch of “New Order” and “Sundown” have clearly upped Franco’s stock. Belgian cinematographer Yves Cape (a Franco regular) has been spotted on-set.Franco trying to break into American cinema is major news. His Haneke-style nihilism and gloomy outlook on humanity seems to have struck a chord with US producers.”
