I’ve been following the ascendancy of The Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” for around a month now. This week it became A24’s highest-grossing movie of all-time, surpassing “Uncut Gems.”
Having so far made $50 million domestically, only a fool would not think that, at the very least, this movie could be in contention for one of the ten Best Picture slots next year. It has a decent shot. At a time when independent movies are struggling to break even at the box-office, here comes a successful and critically-acclaimed movie like this one.
Michelle Yeoh could also nab a Best Actress nomination. It has done all this on a $25 million budget. It’s the kind of narrative the Academy pays attention to: the first major indie film success of the pre-pandemic era, and this coming from a well-respected independent studio like A24.
