The Cannes ticketing system purports to allow journalists to reserve screenings four days in advance. That has clearly not happened. Many journos, including myself, have been blocked from booking tickets for many films. The press office swore to me on Sunday that it would be fixed, it still hasn’t.
Cannes then told journalists to log on to the online ticket request site at 7 am to have the best shot at snagging tickets. My attempt at a 7 am wake up was successful, but tickets were still not available. So, what are we supposed to do exactly? I’m now being told to be patient and eventually I’ll be successful.
It’s a total clusterfuck. How are credentialed journalists supposed to see films? Maybe Cannes just needs to cancel this year’s online system and send a mass email announcing that they are reverting back to the pre-pandemic lineup system. The only reason they decided to scrap lining up this year is because they want to avoid crowds due to COVID, but isn’t it worse to be seated inside a packed screening room?
