With less than a month to go before the start of the Cannes Film Festival, its organizers have still not revealed the name of the president or the jury of this 75th edition.
French press Voir is reporting that Penelope Cruz had accepted the Cannes jury presidency before finally having to back down due to scheduling issues. Initially, Cruz’s dilemma was that Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” was supposed to start production during Cannes, but today Deadline is reporting that production will only start a month later in June.
Ever since Cruz backed out, plenty of possible names to replace her have been thrown around as possibilities including Paul Thomas Anderson, Nicole Kidman, Vincent Lindon, and George Clooney.
At some point, Cannes sought out filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, but he then got sued of plagiarism in Iran. That’s obviously a serious charge, but whether it’ll impact his chances at being President remains to be seen.
The clock is ticking and this is quite possibly the latest Cannes has waited to unveil its President and Jury.
