It was inevitable that Scott Rudin would eventually get uncanceled.
Rudin’s crimes weren’t as grotesque as Harvey Weinstein’s, rather, Rudin was just a real asshole of a boss. Add that to the fact that he has the wealth and power to kickstart mid-budget projects in the industry makes him pretty non-disposable.
Today’s intel that Rudin will team-up with A24 for a BBC adaptation of 2020 Booker Prize winner “Shuggie Bain” is not that surprising. As a producer told me via email a few months back, “give it some time, Scott will be back.”
A24 had ended their “business relationship” with Rudin back in April of 2021 Is having the BBC as the “middleman,” so to speak, something of a way for them to bypass the Rudin connection? Rudin has been plotting a comeback since last summer and it seems as though it is finally underway.
Stephen Daldry is set to direct “Shuggie Bain.” What if Rudin’s name is called out come Emmy night 2024? Awkward.
