The Most Memorable Movies of Our Lives

There are good movies, and then there are great movies. Yes, most of us have watched loads of films in our lifetime, but a handful are very much iconic, and you'll always see them appearing in typical top ten movies of all time lists online.

The Dark Knight

Now, you will see a lot of lists like this populated by loads of movies from the 90s and before. But there is no getting away from The Dark Knight, which hit the big screen in 2008,  being one of the most iconic films of all time. The movie, which Christopher Nolan directs, sees Batman do battle on the streets of Gotham City with an up and coming criminal going by the name of the Joker.

The Goonies

The Goonies is one of those classic films that everyone has seen. Released in 1986, The Goonies tells the story of a group of kids who are attempting to stop the demolition of their homes heading out on an adventure with a treasure map they find in the attic. There has long been talk of a reboot due to its popularity, with The Goonies popping up in less-than-expected places such as gaming sites where The Goonies Return slot machine is a big hit.

The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption, which is based on a story by the legendary Stephen King, is a movie that many people will suggest is the greatest of all time. And it’s hard to argue against this statement. Tim Robbins takes on the role of Andy Dufresne, a man convicted of two murders he didn’t commit. While he’s behind bars, Dufresne develops a close bond with Red, played by Morgan Freeman.

Jaws

Has there ever been a film that has impacted people’s lives more than Jaws? There is a suggestion many developed a fear of sharks after watching the 1975 classic. However, it doesn’t take away from just how iconic the movie is. There’s a killer shark on the loose, but they don’t want to close the beaches, so the battle between man and beast ensues.

Pulp Fiction

If there was ever a movie with an all-star cast, it’s Pulp Fiction. Released in 1994 and directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film sees John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, and Tim Roth all appear in this murky underworld story. Vincent (Travolta) and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) take on the roles of hitmen, but more lives and storylines come into play as events unwind.

Goodfellas

We end our list with a mention of a Martin Scorsese classic in the form of Goodfellas. The journey from being petty criminals to gangsters in New York City has never been presented so effectively. Again, it’s another film with an all-star cast, with Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Branco and Paul Sorvino putting in stellar performances as they tell the story of the infamous Henry Hill.
