Following its 12 Oscar nods, and with PGA, DGA, and SAG voting open, “The Power of the Dog” has re-entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 movies list with 5.46 million hours viewed for the week; fellow BP and screenplay nominee “Don't Look Up” ia in 10th place.
There is a massive push right now from Netflix to make history with “The Power of the Dog.” Jane Campion’s film stands to become the first streaming movie in history to win the Best Picture Oscar. Netflix has attempted to win the category numerous times over these last 5 or so years, most notably with “The Irishman,” “Mank,” “Marriage Story,” and “Roma.”
Of course, very much in the way of Netflix accomplishing this feat is voter bias, or anti-streaming sentiment, among voters, which has hampered down a bit in recent years as the industry has managed to embrace/realize the fact that streamers from HBO Max to Amazon to Disney Plus are the future of the industry.
