Tarantino’s Sight and Sound Ballot

December 22, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

The previously posted individual ballots for Sight and Sound’s directors poll gathered up around 85 lists.

However, I had refrained from posting the ballots of more unknown filmmakers. In total around 435 ballots had been compiled by S&S. That means there are still plenty that we don’t know about, that haven’t leaked.

Here’s one that hasn’t been seen yet. It’s Quentin Tarantino’s ballot and it’s as eclectic a collection of films as you might expect from the iconoclast filmmaker.

There are a few B-movies inserted alongside classics from Coppola, Spielberg and Scorsese. The most recent film on his list is Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused,” released 27 years ago.

  • Apocalypse Now (1976) Francis Ford Coppola

  • The Bad News Bears (1976) Michael Ritchie

  • Carrie (1976) Brian De Palma

  • Dazed and Confused (1993) Richard Linklater

  • The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966) Sergio Leone

  • The Great Escape (1963) John Sturges

  • His Girl Friday (1939) Howard Hawks

  • Jaws (1975) Steven Spielberg

  • Pretty Maids All in a Row (1971) Roger Vadium

  • Rolling Thunder (1977) John Flynn

  • Sorcerer (1977) William Friedkin

  • Taxi Driver (1976) Martin Scorsese
