So far, it’s looking very good for James Cameron’s 192-minute epic. The reactions are almost all positive with, again, many pointing out how the stunning visuals overshadow the story. We’ll wait for the reviews to drop next week, but a very good start for ‘The Way of Water.’
A Best Picture nomination is now officially in the conversation for ‘The Way of Water.’ There’s really no other way of putting it. We just have a very weak slate of contending films this year. Also, this is the type of movie that will make money, get good reviews and have a narrative built around people going back to theaters. It’s a movie event and the industry desperately wants (and needs) to support that.
EARLIER: The moment many James Cameron fans on this site have been waiting for has arrived. “Avatar: The Way of Water” screens today at 1pm ET. All 192 minutes of it.
I’m only set to watch it next Monday. There is a review embargo set until Tuesday, December 13th at noon (the day prior the Golden Globe nominations are announced). However, social media reactions are allowed today after 6pm ET. This is the last remaining, supposed, Best Picture contender left to be screened.
You know the drill, I’ll be updating this post as reactions start to trickle in on Twitter.
