Los Angeles Film Critics Association: ‘TÁR’ and ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Win Best Film in a Tie [Updated]

December 11, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

The Fourth tie in LAFCA history occurred this late afternoon. ‘TÁR’ leaves the night with Actress, Screenplay, Director and Picture. “TÁR” is the clear critical favorite this year — it’s won Best Film at both the LAFCA and NYFCC. An Oscar nomination is now very likely.

As mentioned, TÁR’s Todd Field won Best Director. ‘Everything Everywhere’ filmmakers The Daniels did not even get the runner-up spot, instead that went to RRR’s SS Rajamouli.

The LAFCA also went gender neutral this year and yet they managed to reward, in all the acting categories a male and a female performance. What was the point of going gender-neutral if you’re just going to chicken out?

There was also a nice little Oscar push for acting winners Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness) Cate Blanchett (TÁR), and Bill Nighy (Living).

EARLIER: Starting at 10am PST, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association will start revealing their year-end awards. I’m hearing there is already lots of love for “RRR” and “Decision to Leave” within this group.

The Boston Film Critics will also be revealing their winners a bit earlier than L.A — big day ahead.
