The good news for “Avatar: The Way Of Water” is that it has somewhat hit early projections and now made $1 billion worldwide after just 13 days in theaters. That makes it the 6th fastest film ever to reach that mark.
Projections now make it that the film will end up with $1.9 billion when all is said and done. It’s already crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office, and Tom Brueggemann’s keen eye for these things believes it’ll end up with $500 million total.
The ‘Avatar’ sequel will play, literally, exclusively in theaters for the next eight weeks. No competition. It’ll keep making money week after week. Right now, it’s the 3rd highest-grossing film of the pandemic era and will soon take over “Jurassic World: Dominion” in 2nd place.
Will it surpass current pandemic-era champ “Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.91 billion)? It’s doable. Regardless, don’t call it a disappointment, the box office has changed post-pandemic. So, no, it won’t get to the original’s $2.7 billion gross.
‘The Way of Water’ is the most expensive movie ever made at a budget of, supposedly, $450 million and that’s not counting marketing costs. However, Cameron had stated that the film would need to make $2 billion to break even.
