The much anticipated sequel to “Black Panther” took in $28 million last night in previews. It’s only a million dollars short of “Thor Love and Thunder” which opened to $29 million in previews. “Wakanda Forever” should take in anywhere between $150-$200 million by Sunday.
Two weeks ago, the ‘Black Panther’ sequel was tracking at around $175 million. The original opened to $202 million in 2018. Marvel has been making almost the exact same movie for 15 years now and they’re still cashing in with ever prequel, sequel, origin story etc.
There will be no real competition for ‘Wakanda Forever’ this weekend. The box-office is its for the taking. It’ll be interesting to see how audiences react to this bloated sequel. So far, it has an IMDB rating of 7.4 and an audience rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews are at around the same level.
A serious question for WoR readers: Will anybody actually be going to see “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” this weekend? I know we don’t necessarily attract the Marvel demographic around here, but surely some must be curious about this latest Ryan Coogler extravaganza?
