For some reason, people seem to really like “Everything Everything All At Once.” I’ve seen it twice already and felt absolutely NOTHING. Some are going as far as calling it “visionary” and a “masterpiece.” I get it, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Regardless, the Indie Spirit nominations were announced today and The Daniels’ multiverse film lead the way with 8 nominations — Best Feature, Best Director, Best Lead Performance (Yeoh), Best Supporting Performance, Breakthrough Performance, Best Screenplay, Best Editing. Congrats to Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan.
“TÁR” finished closely behind with 7 nominations: Best Feature, Best Lead Performance, Best Supporting Performance, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. Congrats to Todd Field, Cate Blanchett and the rest of the cast/crew of that wonderful movie.
Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” and supposed Oscar frontrunner Brendan Fraser were completely snubbed …
The complete list of nominees can be found here. For the Best Feature category it’ll be between “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “TÁR,” “Women Talking,” Bones and All,” and “Our Father, the Devil.”
Some surprises. The filmmaker behind “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies,” Halina Reijn, got nominated for Best Director and Lena Dunham nabbed a Best Screenplay nod for “Catherine Called Birdy.”
Notice, no genders in the acting categories. The indie spirits are gender neutral, man. That’s how they roll. Should be interesting if, for some reason, men sweep the acting categories (which I highly doubt).
