I refuse to believe Robert De Niro has decided to go the D-movie route in his career, but “Savage Salvation” could be the first step. Terrible title, right? Even worse trailer.
Two time Oscar winner De Niro, one of the greatest actors who ever lived, and the very talented John Malkovich were potentially duped into making this movie? or the paycheck was too large to ignore. Regardless, it’s such a peculiar decision on their part to sign up for this one.
Directed by Randall Emmett, this is the kind of project that Bruce Willis and John Travolta now star in on a yearly basis. A VOD specialty. I can’t imagine DeNiro continuing on this path, especially with Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” coming up.
Even more astonishing, “Savage Salvation” is backed by a ridiculous total of 42 producers. Is that a new record? I’d love to know the background story for this one. That means, on average, each of these 42 individuals invested around $10,000 a piece on the film.
The distributor for “Savage Salvation” is called The Avenue Entertainment. They are the go-to experts for sleazy, underwritten and unabashedly mediocre VOD fare. Their ”Savage Salvation” will be released on VOD December 2nd, will anyone even notice?
