Yesterday, THR confirmed our story that “Avatar: The Way of Water” was indeed 190 minutes.
Now I’m getting word that the full-length trailer will be released this coming Wednesday. DGA/press screenings are to be expected during the last week of November. So, things are moving fast in that regard.
Whether this sequel makes more money than 2009’s “Avatar” is still up for debate. There’s a lot riding on James Cameron’s sequel, especially since a third chapter has already been shot and the fourth and fifth instalments are currently in production.
Cameron has been relentless in his never-ending and passionate investment of the “Avatar” world. So much so that it pains me to think we’ll ever see any new original ideas emerge from the guy in the near future. By the time the fifth film comes out in 2018 Cameron will be 74 years old.
Remember, this is the same filmmaker who was a sci-fi/action trailblazer with films such as “Aliens,” “The Terminator,” “The Abyss,” “T2: Judgment Day,” and even “Titanic.” The world of ‘Avatar’ has basically consumed him for the past 15 years and will likely continue to do so until the very end of this decade.
