David. O Russell has quickly booked his post-Amsterdam project. According to Puck News, he is set to direct the pilot for a Paramount+ limited series titled “FIFA.”
The show is set in the world of soccer, Puck adds that Paramount has a deal with Russell to direct two other projects, no details on whether they are specifically for TV.
Russell hasn’t directed any television in his career, I theorized last month on the idea that maybe Russell should go to the small screen next after “Amsterdam.” It’s clear that there’s a bias against him right now and that almost anything he does, film-wise, will be met with sharpened knives by critics.
There is also still some prestige left with Russell’s brand of filmmaking as he’s constantly delivered critically-acclaimed films in his career, such as Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter, Three Kings, Flirting With Disaster and American Hustle.
