Margot Robbie Campaigned as Supporting Actress?

October 5, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Feinberg tells me it’s still TBD, but he suspects that this category placement will be the case come December.

Scott Feinberg has his latest predictions up on THR. A few eyebrows are being raised as people noticed he had Margot Robbie (Babylon) in the Supporting Actress category …

If that’s the case, and I’m not 100% sure Feinberg is basing this on any intel, then one would surely assume that Robbie is now a major contender not just for a nomination, but a win.

The people who saw “Babylon” this Spring believed Robbie would be campaigned as a Lead Actress, but that the whole of “Babylon” is very much an ensembly kinda thing. There is no clear lead, maybe Diego Calva, but I’m even wondering now if he’ll just go Supporting as well.

A person who saw the film, and that I emailed last night, flat out said “If there is any lead in “Babylon,” it’s probably Robbie”. I would imagine Paramount saw former frontrunner Michelle Williams’ exit of the category and wanted to pounce at that opportunity.

“Babylon” is already said to have a very good supporting performance from Jean Smart. Robbie would completely cut the wind off of the momentum her co-star currently has. I just emailed Feinberg this morning, we’ll figure out what this is all about very soon.
