We can add James Cameron to the ever-growing list of directors who have criticized superhero movies. The full list of names can be found below.
Speaking to the New York Times, Cameron admitted that it annoys him to see Marvel/DC characters never act like adults and always act “like they’re in college”:
“When I look at these big, spectacular films — I’m looking at you, Marvel and DC — it doesn’t matter how old the characters are, they all act like they’re in college. They have relationships, but they really don’t,” Cameron told The New York Times. “They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don’t experience it, and I think that’s not the way to make movies.”
Then again, Cameron is major Zack Snyder fan. Snyder seems to be the exception for Cameron who has said that the “Batman v Superman” director invented a “new cinematic language” with his films. He’s not the only person who loves Snyder — in fact, there’s a huge pro-Snyder fanbase out there, including National Review critic Armond white.
About that list. Over these last few years, I’ve been updating a list of all the directors that have publicly criticized Marvel movies.
