The Writers Guild of America just announced their nominations. Another good precursor for the Oscars as there are a TON of writers who are also AMPAS voters.
Basically, a few notes, and what you really need to know …
“The Tragedy of Macbeth” missed a nomination. It’s toast.“C’mon C’mon” missed a nomination, it is also toast
“West Side Story” made it, combine that with today’s PGA nom and Steven Spielberg’s film is, basically, set to have a major presence at this coming March’s Oscar ceremony. A DGA nomination later today isn’t out of the question either.
It’s been a very good day for “Tick Tick … Boom.” At this stage, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lin Manuel-Miranda also gets DGA nominated. His movie has been absolutely on fire with these precursors.
A nice little touch, even though I’m not totally a fan of the film, is Wes Anderson getting a nod for “The French Dispatch” in the Original Screenplay category.
“Nightmare Alley” is really coming on strong. I can see Guillermo del Toro’s film maybe replacing “Being the Ricardos” in the 10th Best Picture slot.
