Bong Joon-ho’s Next Film Confirmed

January 19, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

We had reported on 12.20.21 that Bong Joon-ho was setting his sights on his next film and that Tilda Swinton was going to be part of it.

Today Variety confirmed Bong’s next film, which the trade says also stars Robert Pattinson and will be an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel, “Mickey7.”

The novel’s official synopsis:

“The story follows Mickey7, an Expendable, a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

After his Cannes and Oscar-winning “Parasite,” we were all wondering what Bong’s next film was going to be and it seems as though he’s going back to the English-language after his 2017 film, “Okja.”

This would be Bong and Swinton’s third collaboration together after “Snowpiercer” and “Okja.” Meanwhile, Pattinson continues to amass the A-list auteur directors in his filmography having already worked with Cronenberg, Herzog, Gray, Safdie Brothers, Denis, Eggers, and Nolan.
