Here’s a pandemic-era release with decent potential. The director, actors and premise are, on paper at least, all promising. “Stowaway” is set to be released four week from today. Netflix will be screening it for me next week — a sure sign that they have a positive outlook for this one. It’s another survivalist saga in space, but the just-released trailer has raised my expectations.
In our list of the 20 most anticipated Netflix movies of 2021, Theo Rich wrote this about “Stowaway”:
“The crew of a spaceship headed to Mars discovers an accidental stowaway shortly after takeoff. Too far from Earth to turn back and with resources quickly dwindling, the ship's medical researcher emerges as the only dissenting voice against the group consensus that has already decided in favor of a grim outcome. Stowaway is an upcoming sci-fi thriller film, written by Joe Penna and Ryan Morrison and directed by Penna. The film stars Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, Daniel Dae Kim and Shamier Anderson, but, more intriguingly, this is Penna’s second film after the Cannes-premiered survivalist epic “Arctic.” — Theo Fisher, 01.15.21
“Stowaway” premieres globally April 22nd on Netflix. Watch the trailer below:
