Last year's Berlin Film Festival ended up being one of the better editions with films such as “Bad Luck Banging”, “Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy”, “I'm Your Man”, “Petite Maman”, “Introduction,” “The Girl and the Spider,” and “What Do We See When We Look at the Sky” premiering. They all had decent post-Berlin lives and healthy fall festival runs.
That’s why we’re looking forward to this year's edition, if they're able to go through with it safely. Variety’s Elsa Keslassy has written that she expects these French titles in the line-up:
Claire Denis’ “Fire”
Francois Ozon’s “Peter von Kant”
Mikhaël Hers’ “Les passagers de la nuit”
Alain Guiraudie’s “Nobody’s Hero”
We had already broken the news about Denis being at Berlin months before anyone knew. Ditto Guiraudie. I had no clue about Ozon, but it would make sense considering he likes to premiere some of his films at Berlin.
We had written back in 12.01.21 that the Berlin Film Festival was contemplating delaying their upcoming February edition due to the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, according to Variety. The report stated that there has been talks about pushing the Berlinale as far out as June from its current scheduled run of February 10-20, 2022. A delay is widely seen as preferable to mounting a virtual festival, sources said.
