It does look as though Pedro Almodovar is very serious in making his first english-language film. Speaking to Variety, Almodovar has confirmed that “Money Manual” aka “A Manual for Cleaning Women” is the film he’s currently working on.
“We’re in the midst of working on this film “Money Manual,” but it’s still to be seen whether it’s going to be the next film. It should be the next film, but I can’t say with certainty. It would be, in fact, my first feature film that will be in full English.”
A few months back, in a podcast appearance, Agustín Almodóvar, film producer and younger brother of Pedro, confirmed that his famous sibling was set to direct an adaptation of “A Manual for Cleaning Women,” starring Cate Blanchett:
‘Manual’ is a collection of short stories and Pedro has, supposedly, managed to adapt five of them into one linear narrative. Almodovar created a single character out of the five stories with Cate Blanchett set to play her. As mentioned, this would be Almodóvar‘s first English feature-length film — during the pandemic he teamed up with Tilda Swindon for a short film titled “The Human Voice.”
Blanchett is going to be very busy these next few years as she as already booked new films with such esteemed directors as Todd Field, James Gray, Alfonso Cuaron, Francis Ford Coppola and now the great Almodóvar.
