Did you know that Lin Manuel-Miranda’s “Tick, Tick .. Boom!” is now available to stream on Netflix? If you didn’t then you’re not alone. It’s nowhere to be found on the Netflix homepage, not anywhere near their top 10 most viewed or trending.
Is this a dump from Netflix?
The streaming giant is already spending loads of cash campaigning the likes of “Passing,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Don’t Look Up,” “The Lost Daughter,” and “The Hand of God.” Manuel-Miranda’s film feels like a non-starter.
“Tick, Tick … Boom!” has been getting good reviews — an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 74 on Metacritic. It’s not a gamechanger by any stretch of the imagination, but has its fans, especially when it comes to Garfield’s excellent performance. Other than that, I feel like there is more support for “In the Heights.”
From a West Coast critic friend:
“It’s funny but now that “Tick, Tick…Boom” is out on Netflix, I’m not sure I have enough of a damn to watch it. I’ll watch it, of course, but I’m not feeling the verve.”
