It was almost inevitable that the “Dune” sequel would happen, especially with its global total of $223 million far surpassing the $165 million budget.
Legendary Pictures has officially greenlit Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune: Part Two.” “This is only the beginning…,” the company wrote on Twitter, announcing the film. “Thank you to those who have experienced @dunemovie so far, and those who are going in the days and weeks ahead. We’re excited to continue the journey!”
“Dune: Part Two” is expected to land in theaters on October 2023. A full theatrical release is planned, and without an HBO Max day and date release.
Despite my reservations about “Dune,” a Best Picture nomination seems almost inevitable at this point. It’s hard not to admire a film that promotes the theatrical experience and has this kind of passionate emotive response from moviegoers.
