Oscar winner and master filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón was a guest at the 16th annual Rome Film Festival.
He spoke about his relationship with Italian cinema, his love of Federico Fellini, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, but, even more enticingly, Cuarón had high praise for Guillermo Del Toro's “Nightmare Alley.”
When asked about his friend and colleague Del Toro's film, he had nothing but high praise: "It's a masterpiece! “Nightmare Alley” is a wonderful masterpiece. I think it's Guillermo Del Toro at his best: He really is marvelous."
Cuaron also hinted at what his next, post-Roma, project will be. An Apple TV mini-series he is set to direct, starring Cate Blanchett and Gary Oldman. [Via Rome]
Back to “Nightmare Alley,” it was test screened last week to positive reactions. Del Toro has stated that it was a rough cut and the film will be finished in three weeks time.
