After receiving mixed reviews (too many loose plot strands), I’ve actually been hearing intel that completely makes sense: David Chase is thinking about turning “The Many of Saints of Newark” into an HBO series.
Not that shocking.
This would be part of the overall deal Chase just signed with HBO. Maybe ‘Newark’ was a test-run for Chase and HBO, but the early viewing numbers for the movie are said to be very good on the network’s streaming service, HBO Max.
Chase cast Michael Gandolfini, son of the late great James Gandolfini, as Tony Soprano — his dad masterfully played the part for six seasons on HBO’s The Sopranos.
You might be asking yourself, does the kid even act? Why, of course. James recently had a breakout turn on HBO’s “The Deuce.” I can vouch for his acting abilities, as he was, quite frankly, impressive on that show. Also, his resemblance to his late father is uncanny. He’s quite impressive in “The Many Saints of Newark.”
Also cast in The Many Saints In Newark are Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll. No word yet on whether this entire cast will be back for the HBO series.
