Man, the 2020 SXSW Film Festival refuses to quit during this everlasting pandemic.
It was only a month ago that SXSW canceled its 2020 edition of the fest, only to end up as an online venture a few weeks later, with Jury prizes handed out to competition titles. Now comes the news that they are teaming up with Amazon to deliver a new version of the festival that will stream on the Prime Video platform.
This singular and unique film event will be called “Prime Video presents the SXSW 2020 Film Festival Collection,” and is set to debut a “selection of films” that were picked to screen at this year’s festival. The selected films will be free to view, during a 10-day period, for film fans around the world.
This is great news for cinephiles worldwide as it proves that film festivals can continue to present new content to a large audience, despite the restrictions imposed on it by COVID-19 social distancing lockdowns. TIFF may very well be next in going digital.
No exact date has been announced just yet and the actual lineup isn’t known at this time, sources say Amazon is hoping to begin screening films by late-April.
