It appears as though director Jeff Nichols’ next film will be “Yankee Comandante” [via Variety] Nichols is set to write and direct the film which is set to star Adam Driver and is based on David Grann’s New Yorker piece about two men who rose to the ranks of comandante during the Cuban Revolution, Che Guevara. and, the other, a man from Ohio.
Nichols hasn’t made a movie since 2016’s subtle, but beautiful interracial romance “Loving.” The 41-year-old director has built up an impressive filmography ever since his 2007 debut “Shotgun Stories,” he followed up that indie with the critically-acclaimed “Take Shelter,” “Mud” and “Midnight Special.”
Driver is one of the hottest actors around right now. Every filmmaker wants to work him right now, he’s already starred in films directed by Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Joel and Ethan Coen, Jim Jarmusch, Spike Lee, Noah Baumbach, Steven Soderbergh, JJ Abrams, Terry Gilliam — all of this in a span of fewer than 10 years. Driver sure knows how to pick ‘em.
There’s no release date set for “Yankee Comandante.” The film is set will to begin filming sometime in early 2021.
