More postponements as Disney has decided to delay the releases of “Mulan,” “The New Mutants,” and “Antlers” due to Wuhan virus concerns. A predictable set of events as today has been a game-changing day in the country as numerous schools, and businesses suspended activities for the foreseeable future. Not to mention Tom Hanks and Justin Trudeau having been quarantined for the virus.
As for Walt Disney Pictures, well, they’re not fucking around and for good reason, especially since director Niki Caro’s live-action remake of “Mulan” was set to make very big money overseas and especially in China. Slated for a March 27th release in the U.S. and globally March 26th, Caro’s film has a budget of over $200 million, which makes it the most expensive live-action film ever directed by a female filmmaker. There is currently no new release date for the film.
As for “The New Mutants” …
These new delays come on the heels of what has been a hectic and very tumultuous day for the movie industry which also saw the suspended releases of upcoming blockbusters “F9,” and “A Quiet Place: Part II,” not to mention marquee cinematic events such as the TCM Classic Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, and CinemaCon canceled.
Is “Black Widow” next?
