The surprise announcement, that Bob Iger would step down immediately as CEO of Disney, caught most of the industry off-guard this late afternoon.
According to the Disney press release, Iger will now take on the role of Executive Chairman and direct the company’s “creative endeavors.” The release says this set up will provide “the full benefit of his experience, leadership, and guidance to ensure a smooth and successful transition” through the end of his contract on 12.31.21.
Iger will be succeeded by Bob Chapek, now officially the Chief Executive Officer for The Walt Disney Company, effective immediately. Chapek’s former position was as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.
