Will I be attending the upcoming 2020 SXSW Film Festival in March? Who knows, but today it was revealed that the Opening Night selection will be Judd Apatow’s first film in over five years — “The King of Staten Island,” starring Pete Davidson.
“Judd Apatow has consistently provided transcendent, exhilarating experiences at SXSW, starting with ‘Knocked Up,’ then ‘Bridesmaids,’ ‘Trainwreck,’ ‘Girls,’ ‘The Big Sick,’ and his documentary ‘May it Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers,’” said Janet Pierson, Director of Film. “This March it’s our particular privilege to present his funny and deeply moving new feature — his first in five years as a director — ‘The King of Staten Island,’ starring Pete Davidson leading a great ensemble, as our Opening Night Film.”
A quick look at some of the other titles to world premiere; “The Lovebirds,” a rom-com that reunites Kumail Nanjiani with “The Big Sick” director Michael Showalter. There’s also “In & Of Itself” directed by Frank Oz, and Spike Jonze’s documentary tribute “Beastie Boys Story.”
SXSW Film Festival kicks off on March 13. You can check the full SXSW 2020 lineup here.
