Jim Carrey. Patrick Stewart. Michael Caine. Bill Murray. Well you can now add the names of Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell to the list of Hollywood stars to sign their name to an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.
First reported by The Wrap yesterday, the respective ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Step Brothers’ stars have signed up for a musical adaptation of Christmas’ most famous story.
The current studio-less film will be penned by Sean Anders, and directed by John Morris, who has previous with Ferrell following “Daddy’s Home.” Whilst their most recent offering ‘Instant Family’ outshone expectations at the box-office, taking over $67M domestic and over $120M worldwide.
It is unclear as of yet which of the stars (if any) will portray the famous, fictitious, Christmas hating Ebenezer Scrooge, last seen on the big screen ten years ago in Robert Zemeckis’ animated take starring Jim Carrey, and with the project currently being shopped round, it will be interesting to see which studio would want to a gamble on yet another re-imagining of a classic. Although the promise of a musical element may make it a far more enticing investment following the unprecedented success of musical films since ‘La La Land’ in 2015.
